What do you do if your optical drive won't read any disk you put in it ? So many times I hear my DVD Burner won't burn any cd or it won't play a DVD. The other common problem is that the optical drive door won't open or it just won't close. I have seen some problems where the DVD drive will only open and close if a cd is in the drive.
All of the above indicate that the optical drive should be replaced. The problems can be due to a sensor inside the drive becoming defective. It can also be that the laser that reads information off the cd is defective. The other common problem is that the circuit board inside the drive has a defective component on it.
The only solution to these problems is to replace the drive. The next issue is what dvd burner should I buy. First I would determine what type of connection it has to the motherboard. It will either be the older ide connection or the newer sata connection. The other connection is what type of power connector does it use. It will either be a 4 pin molex connector or the newer sata connector. If the computer is at least five years old it probably is sata. Here are some pictures of these connections.
Once you have determined what connections you have, you can then decide on what type of drive you need. You may just want a dvd rom drive which will read cdr and dvd disks. It will also play a dvd movie depending on what program you have installed in the computer. If you plan on burning data to a dvd disk, then I would suggest a dvd burner. It will burn data to a dvd disk, play a dvd movie and read data off a cdr disk. You can also burn data to a cdr disk as well.
The next big struggle is how to get the drive out of your computer. There may be some catches on the side that have to slid forward or backward. There may be some screws that have to come out. In some cases a cage may be removed from the case. I have seen some cases where the front bezel comes off and the drive slides forward after removing cables. Then there are the easy ones that are pulled backwards in the case after disconnecting all cables, removing screws or sliding catches. Then finally there is the real tough ones where you have to remove devices, cables and components such as a video card or microprocessor fan before the drive can slide backwards to remove it.
There are Video Examples Of How To Remove A Optical Drive on youtube if you need a visual.
The best thing to do is check any manual that you may have for your system. For example if it is a Dell or Gateway or whatever manufacturer you have. If you don't have a manual you can check the manufacturer's website for information. The other choice is to look for a video on youtube on how to remove or install the optical drive from you make and model.
Well Thank You for reading and stay safe. All comments are always welcome.
